Phononics
Design of artificial structures for the full control of electromagnetic and acoustic waves.
Labs fully equipped with acoustics and optical instrumentation for experiments on phononics.
Research projects on Phononics.
The control of the energy carried out by acoustic and electromagnetic waves is a challenging problem with a countless number of applications, from imaging to energy harvesting. This control is not always easy or even possible to obtain with natural materials since these are intrinsically limited in their functionalities. However, artificially structured materials can be especially designed to acquire extraordinary properties that can be useful to enhance or modify the natural response of common materials.
At GROC-UJI we aim to develop theoretical and experimental methods for the design of artificial structures for the full control of classical waves. We focus our efforts in the study of the propagation of acoustic waves in complex materials and also in the development of applications resulting from this interaction.
